the Russo-Japan War a battle was fought at Port Arthur. The natural boundaries have an effect from geography. Russia got land east of the the Ural Mountains which divide Europe and Asia by defeating Germany in World War 1. The Artic and Pacific oceans are natural boundaries in the north and west. And finally the Sayan Mountains and the Yablonovy Mountains are natural borders for Mongolia. Geography in Russia has definitely effected its history and government.
