Politics in the Italian Renaissance
In The Prince, Machiavelli is attempting to win the favor of the prince in Tuscany. He tries to do this by giving him the only thing that he feels could benefit a new prince, his knowledge. Most people try to win favor by giving horses, gold, or precious stones, but Machiavelli had none of these. The only thing he had of value was his experience

a prince never lacks a legitimate reason to break a promise. He says that one who deceives will always find one who allows themselves to be deceived. Man’s actions in the world often are due to his place in society. The people of the Renaissance as in all time periods in history are moral people. However, the leadership often times is not. Machiavelli felt this was the most effective way to govern.
