On December 7th, 1941 at 8:00 a.m. a bomb was dropped on Pearl Harbor by Japan. There had been no official declaration of war. The U.S.S Arizona (BB39 Battleship) was struck by a converted armor penetrating naval shell. This explosion caused the U.S.S Arizona to sink to the harbor bottom in just a few minutes. The U.S.S Arizona was brought about by the desire to establish some sort of memorial at Pearl Harbor to honor those who died in the attack.
