Lysistrata
Aristophanes’ satirical comedy Lysistrata, defied all characteristics of ancient Greek women. It was a revolutionary piece, having the hero of the story a smart, independent, confident and strong-willed woman. These characteristics are made apparent through Aristophanes’ use of diction, and imagery leading to tone in all spoken parts said by Lysistrata.

Lysistrata was definitely the heroine of this play. Her use of diction, and imagery were the main ingredients leading to her fierce, stubborn, authoritative and self- reliant tone. This tone was Lysistrata’s most powerful tool in ending the war, bringing the men home, and creating peace. All which was well appreciated by the women of ancient Greece.
