The Vietnam War
The Vietnam war started between France and Indochina which was made up of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Indochina was originally controlled by the French until World War II when Japan took over it. After Japan was defeated in WWII France tried to regain its hold on Indochina, but a Vietnamese patriot named Ho Chi Minh organized a revolt.

had captured the great French fort of Dien Bien Phu. And then two months later in July the war ended with the signing of the Geneva Accords. The Geneva Accords divided Vietnam into North and South Vietnam which would be reunited with the elections of 1956.
Early in the war the Viet Cong rebelled against Ngo Dinh Diem because he was appointing his own officials. By the year 1960 the Viet Cong had around 10,000 troops.
