TWO FISHERMEN
Michael is in essence a good man. He essentially is trying to find Smitty because he wants an interview for the town newspaper. Michael finds Smitty down at the pier, and offers to take him in a rowboat to the middle of the lake. When they get there Michael says to Smitty, “Do you know this Thomas Delaney that is dying in the morning?”, but Smitty doesn’t want to talk about it.

his fish and throws them at Smitty. Mortimer says to him, “What are you holding there, Michael, what’s under your arm? Fish. Pitch them at him. Here, give them to me.” Smitty sees this and gets very sad and runs for one of the waiting cars. “The expression on Smitty’s face as he saw the fish on the road made Michael hot with shame and he tried to get out of the crowd”.
