This describes the roles of females in The Odyssey by Homer

In Homer's The Odyssey, a poem about an aging hero, Odysseus, trying to find his way home, there are several female characters that can lead us to draw conclusions about the roles of women in ancient Greece. One learns through use of some of the more major female characters that women are not to be heroic, sexual, or dominant. Homer uses his female characters to introduce his culture to the reader, purposefully or not. The reader comes away from this poem with a greater understanding of ancient Greek culture, specifically the roles of women at this time.
