The setting of this book takes place in a small African village called Umofia in the early 1900¹s. The main character is named Okonkwo and he was a deeply respected member of his clan. The process was that the British would slowly implicate their religion to gain supporters and implicate their government to introduce and enforce British rules in the African nations. Either theme could be supported by facts from the book but either way Achebe was showing the British that the Africans had an authentic culture before they were occupied and that the people and the culture needed no salvation from their ³primitive² ways.
