Although marijuana was illegal, this law was not enforced. These drugs helped people escape from reality and focus inward, on themselves. Young people refused to believe that drugs were bad for them. They also felt that their elders were being hypocrites because they drank, smoked, and used prescription drugs. Teenagers began to high other ways. Sniffing model airplane glue, eating morning glory seeds, and baked banana peel scrapings, and smoking catnip are a few examples.
