Prior to 1932, the federal government had a limited role in the daily lives of American citizens. Aside from the anti-trust legislation of Theodore Roosevelt, politics stayed away from the economic arena and provided almost nothing in terms of a ³safety-net.² This lack of preparation became painfully clear after the devastating Stock Market Crash of 1929 and the onset of the Great Depression. He brought the government into American¹s homes and took care of its citizens like parents. The ramifications of this in post-war times were that of an economic boom and a shifting role of women. Though today the country is in hopes of downsizing the federal government, the expansion in the thirties was necessary for future success of this country.
