The Jungle

“I aimed at America’s heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach.” This statement, attributed to writer Upton Sinclair, is in reference to Sinclair’s novel, The Jungle. The Jungle, written in the early twentieth century, depicts the horrors and corruption of the cities and its industries. Specifically, the novel is aimed at putting down the meat packaging industry. …showed last 75 words of 1530 total…not have had the same impact on the readers if the scenes with the meat packaging factories had not been included. Although the public was stirred by the horrendous stories of the poor, the scenes that hit the stomach were the elements that made the book so popular. And even though Sinclair did not intend for the book to be so nauseating, I am sure that he is glad with the good that it caused.
