The Civil War Amendments are three amendments added to the constitution after the civil war to protect African American rights, unite the union and to form equality of the nation. The best amendment that had the greatest impact on individual rights was the “Fourteenth Amendment protected and guaranteed the rights of all Americans” (Smith, 127). equality, many southern states disliked the idea of sharing freedom and rights with African Americans. But the congress enforced it and so the southern states had to accept it. Until this day the Fourteenth Amendment remains among the most important amendments in the constitution. “The constitutional guarantees expressed in Section 1 and the power of Congress to enforce them, as provided for in Section 5, are what make the Fourteenth Amendment important to till this day” (Smith, 127)
