that is where the EPA comes in. The Environmental Protection Agency has started the Acid Rain Program whose purpose is to achieve significant environmental and public health benefits through reductions in emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOX). They are doing this by regulating the amount large companies and factories are allowed to emit into the atmosphere. This program decreased the amount of SO2 and NOX being emitted by man by almost 50% (“EPA”).
