The Struggle of John Proctor
At the beginning of Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible, John Proctor, one of the
main characters, is perceived by the reader to be a man of little integrity or conviction. Ironically, the play ends with this man being taken away to be hung
because he refuses to lie in order to save his life. Proctor, accused of

Yet he is counseling people to " prevail upon your husband and confess " and says " God damns a liar less than he that throws his life away for pride " and convinces people to lie which is against his religion and considered a moral sin. But he decides that earthly life is a greater gift than eternal life.
