Papacy, while BonifaceVIII was not. Within European society, the Pope’s role has changed in power, influence, and following. These two, Boniface VIII and Innocent III have illustrated how this occurred. Although the similar reactions to conflict was met with differing results, they both helped shape how the Papacy is utilized today. While the authority of the church will always have conflict, these two cases can help illustrate how it has reacted to those conflicts.
