She feels as though even if it is not her fault, she can not win in a battle such as this one. She knows that her fate will come, in defiance of doing all she can to deter it. In addition, because she is a Durbeyfield, it is obvious that she can not clear her name and start over. She is a woman of this era and chooses to take anguish over happiness.
