The Classical Age was from 6th to 4th century BC. Greece was divided into city states that were all independent. Two major city states of this time were Sparta and Athens who had lots of differences between them. Sparta was rich agriculturally and was a militaristic state so they could control the population of the slaves. The slaves out number the Spartans 12 to 1. and Athens wanted to conquer Corinth headed by Pericles so they would be the main trading post in Greece. But Corinth was in the Peloponician League so Sparta had to get involved in the war. The war was evenly fought with Sparta’s army and Athens’s navy but Sparta came out victorious defeating Athens. This has weakened Greece and soon led to its downfall because Sparta now had to take over the Athenian people.
