In the second half of the nineteenth century Europe expanded to many new colonies, exerting both political and economic control. Europeans felt they were superior to the people of these nations and felt just in their domination. Imperialism and Social Darwinism are the two primary theories used to justify and explain this expansion and control.

asserted that everyone was entitled to the same opportunities and advantages. They disagreed with the theories that only those who are well adapted to their society should succeed and they were in favor of social programs, such as governmental subsidies and welfare.
These two theories, Imperialism and Social Darwinism were used to justify and explain Europe’s expansion and the control it took over other nations. What they fail to do though, is excuse it.
