The risks of smoking are very well known. However, millions of people still smoke. Why? I can¡¦t say why other people still smoke even though the effects of cigarette smoke are well know, but I can say why I still decide to smoke cigarettes. The RAND institute in Santa Monica found that obese adults have more chronic health problems than smokers, heavy drinkers or the poor. Roland Sturm, a RAND economist and lead author of the survey, which was published in the latest edition of the British journal Public Health, said, ¡§We didn¡¦t expect this bid difference.¡¨ The study showed the obese tend to have far more health problems than daily smokers do.
