It began on a Sunday morning, and was named after a country church near the battlefield. The Union soldiers weren't prepred for the impending charge of Confederate soldiers. The Confederates attacked at 3 am, totally taking the Union troops by surprise. Bad roads and weather contributed to the delay of Union reinforcements, but when they got there, it took them 2 days of fighting to drive the Confederate troops back. No ground was gained,
