“Shallow Grave”, directed by Danny Boyle, was indeed a film filled with Tragedy. Throughout the movie, we as the audience can see the sequence of tragic events unfurl before us. Among these are the many masks used (Appearance vs. Reality), the conscience and of course foreshadowing. Each and every one of these ties into tragedy. According to an Archetypal analysis, in no way would there be irony or satire. Although some romance may have existed,

All of the above events symbolize tragedy. The foreshadowing foretold of tragic proceedings to be. The conscience facet of it would be unnecessary hadn’t there been an abysmal event that had taken place. The masks used were all to either represent or hide the sinister half of each of these characters. Although some sort of other Archetype may have existed, the main one was unquestionably tragedy.
