The Russian Revolution was one of the great events of the twentieth century. The revolution of February 1917 brought Russia the first democratic regime. During the 1917 Russian revolution there were two distinct periods. These periods were known as the critical period from 1917-1921 and the consolidation period form 1922-1928. Through the repression of Russia, during Lenin’s leadership, many aims and promises failed due to the Bolshevik ideology rather than the leadership role of Lenin. Bolsheviks and Lenin were forced to take dictatorial measures in order to preserve the revolution. These measures were intended as emergency measures only and would have been repealed later if not for Stalin's rise to power in 1928.
