Both the artists were the most famous artists in the world by late 1930's. Especially Picasso was called upon to illustrate the cruelty of fascist violent behavior in the Spanish civil war, with his massive masterpiece "Guernica". Furthermore, both the artists by fitting in the real world in to the canvas, by their unique styles have opened up a century's worth of exploration in the meaning of art.
