The distracted parents ignored their own son’s safety because they were too concerned about the possessions. Looking from the outside it is irrational and we can recognize the harm it will cause. This is how life is. As we focus on the wrong things we do not realize the extremes we go to and we lose sight of everything important. It happens gradually enough that it is logical to us but not to others.
