suffer. In doing so, he unraveled his own lies and deceit in his own life. In most Greek literary works the main theme is that one cannot escape one’s fate. This work is no exception, and it is Oedipus trying to escape his fate that leads him directly to it. In this play the theme is the same. Although it is tragic, I believe Oedipus dug his own grave, with his arrogance.
