In Homer’s “The Odyssey”, Odysseus is portrayed as an epic hero like Everett McGill in the movie O Brother Where Art Thou; however, Odysseus’ role as a hero is a more aggressive and authentic one, whereas Everett McGill’s role is more of a common character who is portrayed as a hero by the virtue of the luck he possesses. One must keep in mind, however, that both characters are definitely heroes, although one more innately than the other. McGill is recognized as a hero amid the three convicts, whereas Odysseus has the potential to be a hero in any given situation, at any given time.
