Humankind’s ability to predict the weather has come a long way over the past century. It doesn’t seem like to long ago that the only way we could forecast weather events as to look at nature. Farmers would look at things such as when the birds migrated, and if there were a “ring around the moon” to determine if the winter would arrive early, or if it would rain. This system helps weather forecasters to predict changes in the environment faster than stations run by the National Weather Service. Where as the NWS stations record information once every hour, the Mesonet stations record and send their information in times varying from five the thrity minute variations, depending upon the type of information.
