In “Marrying Absurd,“ Joan Didion describes her feelings toward Las Vegas thorugh her description of “quickie” Las Vegas marriages. Even though she never says her feelings towards marriages directly, Didion conveys her feeling of contempt toward them through her descriptions and tone. This veil of illusion makes the situation seem ideal instead of exposing it for the miserable situation it really is. Though Didion’s thesis might not be immediately evident, through her descriptions of her observations, Didion shows that Las Vegas weddings is not a respectable way to get married. She believes that Las Vegas weddings are tacky and tasteless.
