Linconshire Limestone

The Lincolnshire limestone was laid down by the Sauk Sea. Then the Penobscot Orogeny (collision of Africa with North America) occurred. As the Penobscot Orogeny was causing mountain building, rivers and streams started to erode sediments away. These sediments consisted of clay, silt, and sand. As these sediments eroded, they stopped the formation of the limestones. The Caledonian Orogeny produced the Ridgely sandstone, Millboro Shale, and the Brallier Shale of the Lower and Upper Devonian. The ridges of the ridge and valley consist of resistant rocks such as the Juniata formation.
