After World War Two the United States was the only country not directly affected by the destruction the war had caused. In Europe the economic structure and infrastructure were totally destroyed by the German armies. Europe was in shambles. The United States in the other hand was prospering. The war had created jobs and the country was able to build on this boost to raise itself up to a super power

The time of the Cold War was a time of duality. The United States was at its most prosperous. The economy was booming, and the citizens were feeling the effects of it. The middleclass had re-emerged as the most important part of society. At the same time the fear of Communism spreading created a fear among the people of the possibility of it spreading to the United States.
