How are dreams/escapism central to the play

Each of the characters has their own dream or escapism. They need this; they need to have something positive to aim for ?especially towards the end of the play. Their dreams are quite different. For example, Maire’s dream is to leave Ireland and live in America, whilst Manus?dream is quite the opposite ?he wants to stay in Ireland and help to defend his country and his way of life. …showed last 75 words of 1175 total…her own dream. She wants to be with Manus. She does come to realise that this will never come to pass, but she needs that dream. She speaks to Manus because she trusts him and wants to please him. Without Manus, her power of speech was gone and we doubt she will ever speak again. Dreams were very important to each of the characters. They each held on to their own dream until the last.
