Throughout the entire play of Hamlet, Hamlet battles with the question of, “will I or will I not kill King Claudius?” There are times during the play where he allows his passion to take over and almost commit the crime, but then his reason takes hold of him and changes his mindset. At times the text supports his idea of taking the path of least resistance and other times there is evidence as to why he should kill Claudius. Until the last act when Hamlet kills Claudius, it is left up to the audience’s own reasoning as to whether he will or will not kill the King.
