In ‘Henry V’ Henry is presented by Shakespeare in a number of different roles: as a political figure, a private man, a leader and accomplished solder. Shakespeare does not really develop the character of Henry; he begins and ends the play as a strong noble and decisive leader of a great country which reflects both history and the Elizabethan desire to see themselves as a part of great nation. For the audience Henry was undoubtedly a hero: “Small time, but in that small, most greatly lived, This star of England.” (Epilogue, 5-6).
