Dachshunds
“Dachshund” comes from two German words: dachs, which means badger, and hund, which means dog. Dachshunds also are known as “wiener dogs,” because of their long bodies and short legs. They were bred in Germany to hunt badgers and other small underground animals. Although dachshunds are the smallest and weakest of the hunting dogs, they are viewed as the most courageous.
There are three kinds of dachshunds; shorthaired, longhaired, and wire-haired dachshunds. Shorthaired dachshunds

and long backs dachshunds easily develop spinal problems, so it’s important to watch their weight. One thing I have learned from Koko is that it seems as if dachshunds are forever young. She runs wild through the house at six almost seven years old as she did when she was a pup. One of the best things about Koko is at the end of a long day coming home to a loving, happy pet.
