In the year of 1095, Pope Urban II started what we know as the Holy Wars or the Crusades. Over the period from 1095-1464, a series of military expeditions were fought to take back the Holy Land, Jerusalem, from the Seljuk Turks. In King Richard’s message to Salah al-Din he said, “As for Jerusalem, it is our place of worship and we will never agree to renounce it, even if we have to fight to the last man.” Many people died in this series of Holy Wars, and it wasn’t for want or need for land and power. It was for a strong belief in a religion.
