Chateau de Chinon

Chateau de Chinon is 45 kilometers south of the city Tours and is located on a rocky outcrop overlooking the River Vienne. The River Vienne is a chief tributary of the Loire River, which flows west through a 56 kilometer estuary into the Bay of Biscay. In one of the castle’s towers, there is a museum dedicated to Joan of Arc, which contains wax figures depicting Joan of Arc petitioning Charles VII. There is also a museum of medieval musical instruments. Outside of the castle, in the medieval section of town called Rue Voltaire, the street has been restored to what it looked like when Joan of Arc came to meet Charles VII.
