For instance, this quote, “...with the exception of one year at the church school, each time I had begun a new school term something would happen to disrupt it.” (pg. 123). This quote shows how Richard was moving around so much that he never could get a friend, supporting my idea that this is why he became independent. He didn’t have time for anyone . That he couldn’t be held back by anyone or anything.
