Beowulf

The epic poem Beowulf describes one man’s struggle in the battle of good against evil. Beowulf is a typical epic hero with that he is semi-divine: “There was no one else like him alive…he was the mightiest man on earth” (15). The conflict between Beowulf and Grendel’s mother highlights the epic’s concern with the battle between good and evil, and, simultaneously, it shows cases in the beginning of Beowulf’s downfall. In this struggle, good and evil are not only external elements but entitles internal ones as well; Beowulf’s inner confusion about this starts his decline.
