“I, Too” by Langston Hughes, it creates a feeling of an individual
vs. a large group enhancing the loneliness felt. The poem recognizes a certain inequality African Americans felt during a time period of racial
discrimination. Hughes recognizes that although different in color, all people living in America were Americans and deserved to be treated equally. Hughes is not known for using lots of symbolism. His poetry is generally straight forward and to the point.

on wonder if its here yet.
I TOO, SING AMERICA
I, too, sing America.
I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the Kitchen
When Company comes,
But I laugh
And eat well,
And grow strong.
Tomorrow,
I’ll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody’ll dare
Say to me,
“Eat in the kitchen,”
Then.
Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed----
I, too, am America
