In “Crossing Brooklyn Ferry”, Whitman tries to understand the relationship between human beings across time. Whitman tries to figure out what he means to the people he sees, the crowds of strangers that inhabit Brooklyn. People still appreciated nature, but more people appreciate growing new worlds and expanding to make more money. I think he does a really well imaging what interests us. He has seen people of his time, he sees the greed growing, and come to the realization that it will only get worse.
