“Yellow Roses”
In “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner and “The Yellow Wallpaper” by
Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the two main characters of these stories display behavior that
some readers may consider “crazy”. What is their problem you ask? Could it be cultural?
Maybe even personal? Or might it even be a dilemma within them? Well it could be any
one. Because of both stories historical settings, which are taking place in the late
1800’s,

succumbed to deal with it by
themselves which caused them to breakdown emotionally without even realizing it. They
were both abused mentally, but not necessarily directly, to the point where their minds
exploded and became delusional in which they were only hurting themselves. The
supporting characters gave them hope in an unrealistic way which deceived them into
thinking they were sane. This was the way women of that time period were sometimes
treated and percieved.
